Carmichael Pathfinder Pinecar Derby

This year’s Pinecar Derby will be hosted by the Carmichael Pathfinder Club on March 4, 2018

There are four categories to win medals and trophies in each class ( junior, teen, adult):
1)  Craftsmanship: For level of difficulty in building the car.
“WOW” factor plays a large part in this award.  A medal is awarded.
2)  Looks Most Like:  As in, “That looks so much like a banana, I think I could eat it!”
A medal is awarded.
3)  Best in Class:  The best in overall “WOW” factor for that class.
A Trophy is awarded.
4)  Speed:  A 1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd place Trophy in each class is awarded to the top three fastest Pinecars. Track-times are measured to the nearest one-hundredth of a second.

Teen Caving ~ Nov 10-12

IMG_20131109_200014_208Teen Caving at Lava Beds National Monument will be Nov. 10 – 12.

  10 hours of cave exploration are required to complete the Pathfinder Caving Honor.

  We will be camping at the Lava Beds Campground, and the teens will be cooking their own food. Be prepared for cold weather as it sometimes snows there in early Nov.

Pacific Union Pathfinder Camporee

The Pacific Union Pathfinder Camporee will be held at Lake Skinner in Southern CA. on Oct. 4 – 9.

   Pathfinders from Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah will be camping under the stars to share The Pathfinder Experience.
Twelve hours of driving each way are required for Redding Pathfinders to attend this event, thus Wed.-Oct 4 and Mon.-Oct 9 will be spent in travel.
It will be a busy schedule with a lot of fun activities.
We are hoping there will be time to visit the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles on the way home.

Redding Pathfinders Camping Skills Week  –  July 5 – 11i-483-7db-6-18

Redding Pathfinders is hosting a camping skills week in Lassen National Park on July 5 – 11

Kids will learn camping and survival skills in this immersive training program to foster leadership and self-dependence in the wilderness.

This program is made possible by a grant from The Lassen Foundation.

Teen Mountaineering on Mt. Shasta

Pathfinder Teens will be learning Mountaineering Basics on a overnight, and day-hike to Lake Helen Base Camp on Mt Shasta. Elevation 10,400ft.

–June 10-afternoon, drive to Bunny Flat Trailhead and   find ideal location to camp overnight.
–June 11, 3am :), gear up and start 5 mile hike to base   camp with headlamps and crampons.
–Lunch at Lake Helen.
Self-arrest and ropes training on the Heart of Mt.   Shasta.  Elevation 11,500ft.
Glasading back down the mountain.

All climbers will be paired in groups of two or three. Each group must have a tent, ice axe, helmet, snow-melting gear, shovel.

Hermit’s Hut Outfitters is sponsoring this event for Pathfinders with discount rentals on needed equipment.

FarNorCal Pathfinders Rock Climbing Honor

Redding Pathfinders, in cooperation with
Shasta Rock Club and Simpson University, will be teaching the Pathfinder Rock Climbing Honor.

May 21, Sunday, 6-8pm Pathfinders will be learning bouldering skills at Shasta Rock Club; 2325 Athens Ave, Redding, CA 96001

May 28, Sunday, 6-8pm Pathfinders will be learning top-rope belay climbing and rappelling at Simpson University Gym; 2211 College View Dr, Redding, CA 96003

Cost is $30 per Pathfinder paid to Shasta Rock Club on May 21, or before to Miguel Chambers.

2018 NorCal Pathfinder BikeAthon Fundraiser

April 2,  Metro Air Park,  Sacramento

Our Fundraising Goal is $3000 for Bike-a-thon.
Pathfinders/Staff must have minimum of 5 sponsors to participate.

Track opens at 8am.  Helmets are required.  Bikes must be in good working condition.
Those working on the Biking Honor (50miles) will be registered as FastTrack.
Bring your own food, or purchase at the food booths.

Snowshoeing Honor – March 12

Pathfinders will be learning snowshoeing on Mt Shasta at the Bunny Flat parking lot. We will complete the snowshoeing honor and do some sledding.
There is a $20 rental fee for Boots, poles and snowshoes from our outdoors sponsor; Hermit’s Hut. Staff have a limited amount of equipment to loan.
Pathfinders will bring their own food.
When:
Sunday, March 12
Meet at Redding Adventist Academy at 9am Sunday morning,
and return by 5pm.
